Proclamation 2016

Dia dhaoibh,

We, as children of Ireland 2016, respect all those who sacrificed their lives one hundred years ago to make Ireland what it is today.

We are proud to live in Ireland.  It is a beautiful country and the Irish people are kind, friendly and welcoming.  Our country is at peace and there are many more opportunities for us than there were for the Irish citizens of 1916.

We hope our vision for the future of an Ireland that’s equal, an Ireland that’s fair and an Ireland that’s happy does justice to the men and women of 1916.

The Irish Republic shall seek to provide basic and proper accommodation for all of its citizens, so that all our people have a place to call home.

Our next priority is that the sick and infirm will be treated respectfully, and provided with affordable health-care of the highest standard; that our older generation will be rewarded with an adequate standard of living and care that reflects the respect due to them.

All children of our nation should have equal opportunities to avail of a good education, which will fuel and enable their opportunities and aspirations.  The state will endeavour to attract and foster businesses to provide jobs for our people and will provide for those who are unable to find work.

Ireland will continue to work towards improving and protecting our environment for the long term benefit of all.

Above all, we recognise that everyone has a right to respect, regardless of their religious beliefs, their culture, or their life choices.  Our dream is for an inclusive Ireland, free from bullying of all kinds, where we live up to our ideal of friendly and welcoming Irish people.

Together, we will continue to strive to advance the way we live and take on this world, not as a single being, but as a whole nation; to change for the better and set new goals, improving on the standards of the past.  We hope that Ireland will retain its individuality in the wider world community, provide a voice to be heard in Europe, and make the right choices for this country, our home.
