School Ethos

We are an inclusive Catholic National School. Catholic pupils were prepared for the Sacraments of Confirmation (13/05/17) and First Communion (06/05/17). The Diocesan Advisors visited all class in February 2017, reporting positively on religious instruction in all classes.   6th class pupils visited Longford Cathedral on 21st March.

Building Works / Improvements

New display boards were acquired for all classrooms, PE Hall and Infant corridors.  Improvements to our School Garden have begun.  Fire Safety works will take place in July/August 2017.  New classroom ICT boards and IPads were purchased using Dept of Education technology grants.

School Policies/Assessment

School Policies discussed and reviewed by the BoM during this year include:
Child Protection, Anti-Bullying, SEN Action Plan, Health & Safety and Enrolment & Admissions. All these school policies can be downloaded from our school website.
In June 2017 the BoM ratified an updated Assessment policy. Standardised Tests results from Literacy and Numeracy tests (May 2017) were presented to the BoM.  School Staff received training on The New Primary Language Curriculum in early November 2016.

WSE

A Whole School Evaluation took place in our school in early October 2016. The findings were very positive.  The BoM read and discussed the report at the December meeting.  The BoM response can be read online as part of the full report.

School Staff – 2017/18

For the school year 2017/18 we will have an Admin Principal, 10 mainstream class teachers, 7 Special Educational Needs Teachers, a school secretary and cleaner. The number of SNAs (currently 2) has still to be announced by the Dept of Education. The Board of Management would like to acknowledge and thank all of our staff for their hard work and dedication to the school.

School Events

School activities this year included Christmas Concerts, Santa Visit, Science Fair, Junior Entrepreneur, Book Fair, Modern Dance, Fundamental Movement Classes, Active School, Boys & Girls Gaelic Football, Swimming Classes, basketball, Sports Day and Tin Whistle classes.
Thank you to our Parents Association for all the wonderful work they do organising and supporting us during these and other events. Thank you to all the music, dance and sport instructors who worked with the children throughout the year

Home/School Communication

Parent Teacher Meetings were held in November; Summer Reports were issued in June.  Our School Newsletter is published 5 times a year.  There is regular communication by phone and text. Our School Website contains news, policy documents, an up-to-date calendar and contact information.

Summer Holidays

Our School closes on Friday 30th June and will reopen on Wednesday 30th August 2017
